Kayak Storage Rack Buying Guide
Storage Location
Obviously, for the best protection of your kayak, an indoor location is preferable to one outdoors if you have the room. Of the three basic systems for storage racks available, wall mounts, floor stands, and ceiling mounts, the first two can be arranged for indoors or outdoors. You’ll need some kind of roofing for a ceiling-mounted rack.
Wall Mount
As mentioned it’s possible to use a wall-mounted rack indoors or outdoors, anywhere there is a vertical structure large enough to support it. Two key points are that space underneath on the floor or ground is free to be occupied by something else and usually, racks are mounted in a position where it is easy to reach the kayak(s).
This system requires a sturdy attachment method and someone handy enough to execute installation well enough to hold the kayak(s) safely in position.

Floor Stands
These are suitable for use inside or outside with the kayaks within easy access. The drawback is that they take up valuable floor space when used indoors. Most models are easy to assemble even for those not very mechanically inclined.

Ceiling Mount
These are great for saving floor space and can be easy to access when there is a built-in hoist system. Some racks, though, require you to hike the kayak onto the rack overhead which is a little trickier.
Ceiling mount installation requires some skills, tools, and a ladder which can be a challenge for some. If you are not handy, I suggest finding someone who is to lend a hand. Manufacturers supply detailed instructions and the system designs are relatively simple.

Size and Weight Capacity
When you select a storage rack, make sure it has the capacity to safely hold your kayaks. If their weight is too much, the rack could break down or come loose from the installation damaging everything, with human injury possible, as well. If the dimensions of your kayak are too large, it may not even fit the rack.
Fortunately, the manufacturers publish pretty clear guidelines. If you have any questions, you can check customer feedback on Amazon or directly ask the seller.
